If you are the photographer for a couple, family or group give them some pointers on what they should wear that will look good in the pictures. Matched colors aren't mandatory, but clothing colors in the same family or in complimentary tones will greatly enhance your resulting photos. It is a good idea to suggest either warm colors or neutral shades, because these look good on nearly everyone. If subjects want to show off some bright colors, clashes can be avoided by setting off the colors with black clothing.
In order to take proper indoor photos under fluorescent light, you should tweak your white balance settings. It's all about lighting and color tones, so be very aware of how fluorescent bulbs can negatively affect your images.
You don't always need your photos to be made with the camera horizontal. Try turning the camera to take a shot from a vertical angle, and see what a dramatic difference it can make in your photographs. Zoom in to see some excellent detail. Zoom out in order to see the entire subject.
When traveling, look for interesting features, monuments, and buildings to photograph. Go look at postcard racks to get some ideas. Many postcards feature attractions, sights of interest, and other relevant subjects that you can shoot while you're in the area.
Create an interesting silhouette. You can even try taking silhouette photography using the sunset environment, or another beautiful setting. For example, if the subject is not as brightly lit as the background, you can produce a silhouette. You can easily create this effect by having a flash go off behind your subject or even just using a brightly lit window. Remember, that this technique could show off an unflattering angle, so be careful in your setup.
To get the best shots in dim or dark situations, you need to decrease your camera's f-stop, or aperture setting. By doing this, the camera's internal aperture opens all the way, letting as much light in as possible to give your shot the best exposure.
Do not make adjusting your settings too complex. Take the time to fully understand one part of your camera controls, such as shutter speed, prior to moving on to aperture or other features. This will let you focus on the picture you are trying to capture, instead of wasting time messing around with your camera while your subjects walk away.
You may think the flash on your camera is only for indoors, but if you use it outdoors, where strong light produces deep shadows, the flash will reduce the shadows in your picture. If you take shots without using your flash, your subjects may appear too dark.
Lighting will not always be on your side when you are shooting landscape. There will be times in which it is impossible to get an ideal shot. So, what are your options? You could always use photo editing software, such as Photoshop, to change lighting.
Use a cropping program to make your pictures better. A picture could be perfect, but what about that random person in the background? Another common malady is a misaligned composition in what could possibly be your favorite shot. You can easily fix those through cropping the image later.
The way that you hold your camera can be a crucial element in creating photographic images. This is important to know because otherwise you're not going to get clear, stable photos. Keep your arms near your body and support your lens with the non-dominant hand.
When you are traveling, take small snapshots of intricate details. Small unique details are often what makes a particular item, location or face interesting. Take a picture of the bus you took or the hotel lobby. Take pictures of the outside of a theater or your goofy doorman.
Once you decide to take a photo, hurry up and do it. The ideal moment to capture an image usually doesn't last for long, so make sure you're always prepared to shoot. The candid feeling might pass, animals in view might scatter away and smiling subjects may tire. Don't worry about correctly using every setting on the camera or you could lose your shot.
Read the camera's manual, please. Manuals may be off-putting because of their thickness and bulk. The common reaction to a manual is to pitch it into a cabinet and forget it or even toss it straight in the garbage. However, the manual is an important source of information and should be taken advantage of. By taking the time to read the manual and familiarize yourself with your camera, you will eliminate frustration and take much better pictures.
Using your resources with expertise and knowledge will enable you to take better, more striking photographs. Learn to portray your world through photography by experimenting with lighting techniques, focus control and creative composition.
